My daughter's zebra birthday cake, 2013. Pink and black zebra prints are her favorite so this was a very simple decorated cake as I used pre-decorated sugar wraps, purchased in Wal-mart's cake decorating center.
This cake was for a young lady's 14th birthday party. She was into music, fashion and loved the colors pink and black. The topper was a frame I found at Hobby Lobby in town. She couldn't have been more pleased with the extra gift!
This cake was made for a budding student director, who made short films in his spare time. The popcorn box contained REAL popcorn. What's more perfect than a movies theme cake?
My daughter-in-law is in love with anything fairy related. I found this beautiful fairy at a local Ross store. (If you are not familiar with Ross, it is a store much like Marshall's or TJ Maxx so you might find something similar in those stores).
The "rocks" were chocolate covered raisins or peanuts. The "toadstools" were upside down peanut butter cups on top of cream filled chocolates, such as Russell Stover brand.

No, that is not Stewey's middle finger, though my son would have loved the intent! My son loves the Family Guy series and so this cake became the theme for his birthday.
For my youngest grand-daughter's second birthday, I got this idea from Family Fun magazine. if you go to their site, you could probably download instructions. The barn and silo had red licorice for sides, fence was pretzels, and used various candy gumdrops etc.) to decorate the cupcakes.
Unfortunately, we had a silo malfunction in the car on the way to the party. It toppled over, even though I had dowels inserted within the silo. If there is a next time for this cake, I will place dowels at each corner as well as the middle to secure.

This lady loved to travel and has been to Europe numerous times. So a Suitcase Cake seemed appropriate. I used a brand of chocolate cookies from Aldi's that were printed with European landmarks and piped on the countries.
My grand-daughter wanted a simple cake with a giant cookie....
and so she shall. I baked a giant chocolate chip cookie (her favorite), placed it in the middle of her chocolate cake...easy-peasy!

The HAMBURGER Cake (and 6 little Gluten-Free sliders)
I find it hard coming up with cakes for men's birthdays. After years of creating all my family and friends' birthday cakes, I am running out of ideas based on their personalities. Since our friend, Jeff, does most of the BBQ cooking, I thought a hamburger cake would be appropriate this year to start our "season by the pool"! Happy Birthday Jeff!
Some anniverary parties offer a great mix of ideas for cakes. Just go with the couple's personalities, home life, etc. Here, my friends, Sharon and Jeff have a pool they generously invite friend's and family to use all summer. I thought I would add past photo clips of some of those friends' days in the sun!
This was the centerpiece for the table at our son and his bride's wedding shower. Obviously, their wedding theme was none other than sunflowers! I placed the plates of cupcakes on mixing bowl stands. I love when I can get double or more uses from an item! The background has a Celebrating Home beverage server which gets a lot of use in the summertime too. I placed the couple's favorite candies in 2 sunflower mugs. For the bride: Reeses's cups and the groom: Mike and Ike's. Below is their engagement photo taken by our photographer daughter, Kerry! It was a wonderful shower!
Aren't they a great looking couple?!
This cake was made to their specifications! It had to be ALL chocolate, inside and out so I used a recipe I found that used coffee. It was delicious! It also had to be Autumn colors and covered in sunflowers. They loved it and that's what counts on their special day!
The icing recipe can be found on my recipes page. I just added 1 cup of Hershey baking cocoa and an extra 1 or 2 tablespoons of milk to make it the chocolate frosting.
